“Hong Kong Shield” (HKS) is a group formed by theatrical and musical professionals during the Umbrella Movement to monitor police brutality, and violence in general. Its establishment was formally announced on 10 December 2014 during a gathering at the Admiralty protest zone. Notable members of the group include Petula Ho Sik-ying, an associate professor of Social Work and Social Administration at the Hong Kong University; Shu Kei, the Dean of Film and Television at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts; writers Chan Wai and Tang Siu-waa; singers Denise Ho Wan-see and Anthony Wong Yiu-ming; songwriter Adrian Zau (Adrian Chow).

On the day of its establishment, the HKS declared its support for citizens protesting peacefully on the street. Its members later met with Larry Kwok Lam-kwong, the chairman of the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC), and urged for the IPCC to process complaints of police brutality as soon as possible.

On 16 December 2014, in reaction to the police dispersing or arresting many citizens participating in “Gau Wu”, the HKS along with the Civil Human Rights Front, Civil Rights Observe, The Professional Commons and Hong Kong In-Media pooled their resources and created the “Police Violence Database in Umbrella Movement” on police officers abusing their powers and violating the Police Force Ordinance. Citizens can submit information to the database.

On Christmas day 2014, some members of the HKS held flashmob concerts called “Yellow Christmas, Music Streaming” at the former protest zones in Causeway Bay, Mong Kok and Admiralty. There was also a finale at The University Mall at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where university students’ strike sparked off the Umbrella Movement. Together with the Federation of Students, the HKS urged citizens to initiate non-cooperation movements against the government, to register to be voters, and not to forget the original intention of the Umbrella Movement in the fight for genuine universal suffrage.
